Security Software Engineer

The Lance group in Apple's Security Designing and Design Association is hiring a software engineer focused on the security of client devices. The team works on security hardening across Apple's operating systems, from memory safety to foundational refactors that protect devices.

• Strong interest in security programming and desire to grow skills in this area
• Experience or coursework in secure software development, vulnerability exploitation, or mitigation
• Experience or coursework writing low-level code such as firmware, device drivers, kernel modules, or hypervisors
• Experience with language security features in C, C++, Rust, or Swift
• Understanding of exploitation and mitigation strategies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Thrives on cross-functional collaboration and testing

• Learn the execution and security state of existing codebases.
• Contribute to the plan for security hardening projects.
• Implement memory safety innovations, mitigations, sandboxing, refactor, or other techniques as needed.
• Update low-level codebases as required using appropriate language such as C, C++, or Swift.
• Execute project tests covering security properties, including unit tests and coordination with QA or security teams.
• Contribute to documentation and training materials for internal teams to maintain security posture.

BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience/skills.

Receptive to new approaches for low-level coding that improve security, including memory-safe languages, C++ enhancements, or C memory wellness improvements.

Base compensation ranges from $30 to $50 per hour, based on skill, experience, and location.
