Note:
This is a full‑time, overtime exempt position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This is a cyclic position scheduled to work full‑time July through May with June off each year (healthcare benefits paid year‑round). This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.
Position
Purpose:
This position reports to the Head Athletic Trainer. The position implements the athletic training program for student‑athletes, maintains the athletic training facility, and provides professional management for the health, injury care, prevention, and rehabilitation. The incumbent coordinates the evaluation care and referral of student‑athletes, maintains appropriate records, and develops protocols and procedures to maximize the health and safety of all student‑athletes.
Nature and Scope: This position supports the mission of the College, and the holistic and integrated philosophy of the Student Wellness, Recreation, & Athletics (SWRA) department, with a focus on the health of student‑athletes. The position provides a quality collegiate athletic training program, which conforms with NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), Cascade Conference, and college policy and procedures. It is critical to the care and prevention of athletic injuries of every athlete at the institution.
The position is responsible for coordinating the care of Evergreen's student‑athletes along a continuum of preventive care and conditioning, injury evaluation, treatment/referral, and post‑injury care and rehabilitation. The position communicates with all head and assistant coaches about the health of student‑athletes, eligibility, and training programs, and may work with specific teams as assigned. The incumbent works collaboratively with staff across SWRA, and specialized medical care off campus to maximize the health, safety, and participation of student‑athletes across Evergreen's NAIA intercollegiate athletics program which includes Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Wrestling, and Women's Volleyball.
Functions
- Provide on‑site athletic training services for all intercollegiate teams, which includes Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Wrestling, and Women's Volleyball.
- Regularly attend practice and training sessions to assess the needs of student‑athletes.
- Monitor and maintain a comprehensive program to maximize the health and safety of all student‑athletes, through a scope of care that includes injury prevention, injury care, and rehabilitation.
- Recognize, evaluate, and assess athletic injuries by obtaining a history of the athletic injury, inspection, and palpation of the injured part and associated structures, and performance of specific testing techniques related to stability and function to determine the extent of an injury.
- Provide treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries through the application of physical agents and modalities, therapeutic activities and exercise, standard reassessment techniques and procedures, commercial products, and educational programs, in accordance with guidelines established with a licensed health care provider.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with athletic training staff, all head and assistant coaches, on campus medical providers, and community medical providers, including specialists, to coordinate and provide appropriate care and management of ailments and injuries commonly affecting student‑athletes.
