Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and current records of all parish and school financial transactions using approved accounting software.
  • Process accounts payable, including reviewing invoices, obtaining approvals, coding expenses, and preparing checks or electronic payments.
  • Record accounts receivable, including parish income, school receipts, fees, donations, and other revenue.
  • Prepare and process bank deposits for parish and school receipts.
  • Reconcile bank and assigned financial accounts on a monthly basis and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assist with payroll administration.
  • Maintain general ledger records.
  • Prepare routine financial reports.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Maintain organized and secure financial files.
  • Follow parish, school, Archdiocesan, and civil financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Work collaboratively with the Pastor, school principal, parish staff, and other designated personnel.
  • Perform other related bookkeeping and administrative duties as assigned.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures, including general ledger work, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with clergy, staff, school personnel, and volunteers.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required; additional education or training in bookkeeping, accounting, or business administration preferred.
  • Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred, especially in a parish, school, or nonprofit setting.
