Job Description: Location:
Douglas County Courthouse, Omaha. District: 4th Judicial District. The Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation (AOCP) is accepting applications for a full time District Courtroom Clerk/Official Court Reporter in Douglas County District Court, 4th Judicial District and travel is expected. This is a responsible paraprofessional position. Work involves verbatim reporting and transcription for court proceedings, hearings and conferences. District Court Courtroom Clerk responsibilities include real-time data entry and maintaining the court record using JUSTICE/DOCKET systems.
Court Reporter I and II responsibilities include real-time reporting, transcription, and equipment operation. Advancement opportunities may lead to Official Court Reporter I with associated training and certification support.
Position Details:
The following classifications exist:
District Court Courtroom Clerk;
Court Reporter I;
Court Reporter II. Official Court Reporters may receive equipment and software support (laptop, steno machine, audio/recording systems, and software) as appropriate for the role. Travel is expected.
- District Court Courtroom Clerk: enter case information in DOCKET and JUSTICE; type portions of judge's decision in real time; operate and log electronic recording equipment; maintain automated logs; manage exhibits; supervise courtroom supplies; assist in maintaining clear and accurate records.
- Court Reporter I and II: provide real-time records for court trials/hearings, read back transcripts, transcribe proceedings, review and certify transcripts, operate digital/audio recording equipment, log proceedings, identify participants, prepare and preserve transcripts and related records, maintain files and exhibits, and perform clerical duties related to the court.
Minimum Qualifications:
- District Court Courtroom Clerk:
High School graduation or equivalent; additional education may substitute for experience. - Court Reporter I:
Demonstrated professional competence as defined by Nebraska Supreme Court Rules; certifications from NCRA/AAERT or equivalent; or official court reporting school documentation. - Court Reporter II:
Must be certified as CRR (NCRA) or FCRR or equivalent. All educational credits must be from an accredited U.S. institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Legal experience; bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required for all roles.
Other:
- District Court Courtroom Clerk:
On-the-job training in JUSTICE within six months; proficiency with digital recording equipment and courtroom procedures; ability to type and monitor proceedings; potential for late hours. - Court Reporter I and II:
Travel may be required; extended sitting and repetitive motions; some late hours.
Hiring Rate (during probation):
- District Courtroom Clerk $40,169.98/year
- Court Reporter I $56,523.21/year
- Court Reporter II $65,432.65/year
Minimum Rate (after probation):
- District Courtroom Clerk $41,174.29/year
- Court Reporter I $57,936.28/year
- Court Reporter II $67,068.51/year
