The State of Nebraska, Department of Health and Human Services is seeking an Office Specialist. This position assists with clerical duties, compiles and checks documents, records, and reports to confirm accuracy and completeness, monitors the status of information, processes requests or transactions, and provides the supervisor or other employees with information for making decisions for the Division of Medicaid & Long‑Term Care and Economic Assistance.

- Meet federal time frames related to the processing of Medicaid & Long‑Term Care and Economic Assistance applications and public assistance referrals.
- Review applications and referrals to ensure they are appropriate, close duplicate cases, and facilitate the merging of duplicate persons and cases.
- Utilize the state computer system to keep case information current.
- Build accurate cases which allow case managers to move efficiently to the next phase of Medicaid & Long‑Term Care and Economic Assistance applications.
- Assist with clerical duties.
- Compile and check documents, records, and reports to confirm accuracy, completeness, and status of information and process requests or transactions, or to provide the supervisor or other employees with information for making decisions.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Coursework or training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or related experience.
- Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the program‑administrative work assigned to the position.
- Knowledge of sources of information pertinent to the assigned work.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of record keeping.
- Ability to formulate and recommend alternative courses of action to meet agency and operational goals and objectives.
- Ability to communicate in person and by telephone, computer, email, or correspondence to exchange information and ideas.
- Ability to summarize technical data and results of research and monitoring activities into reports.
- Understanding and application of instructions and program‑administrative policies and directives.
- Implementation of decisions made and actions selected by others to achieve work objectives, performance goals, and priorities.
- Learning the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the employing agency.
- Learning agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned.
