Director of Project Services Production Office Supervisor Sub-Fabrication Coordinator Primary Purpose of this Position:
Manage the process of contracting fabrication services from outside sources to supplement our own production capabilities, ensuring that a quality product is delivered within the time and budget constraints given.
Essential Job Functions:
Collaborate with the Preconstruction, Project Management, Production, and Engineering departments to evaluate project needs and identify qualified sub-fabricators when outsourced fabrication is required.
Negotiate, issue, and administer subcontract agreements with qualified sub-fabricators while ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, quality, and budget requirements.
Assist in evaluating, qualifying, and maintaining approved sub-fabricators to ensure they meet Company quality, capacity, safety, and performance expectations.
Develop and coordinate project schedules with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and sub-fabricators to establish achievable fabrication and delivery timelines.
Partner with the Project Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Shipping, Production, and Quality departments to support the successful execution of outsourced fabrication projects.
Assist estimators in obtaining subcontract fabrication pricing and evaluating fabrication options during the bidding and preconstruction process.
Monitor the progress of outsourced fabrication projects and proactively communicate schedule, quality, scope, or cost impacts with internal stakeholders and sub-fabricators to minimize project risk.
Represent the Company professionally when interacting with customers, prospective customers, vendors, subcontract fabricators, architects, engineers, and other trade contractors. Participate on cross-functional teams, as requested, to improve processes, profitability, efficiency, and customer service.
Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to ensure materials, drawings, specifications, and other required project information are delivered to sub-fabricators accurately and on schedule.
Serve as the primary liaison between DWS and sub-fabricators while ensuring DWS remains the primary point of contact for customers and that outsourced fabrication is seamless from the customer's perspective.
Ensure work fabricated by outside sources meets the same quality standards expected of DWS. Verify that sub-fabricators maintain effective quality control systems and consistently follow established procedures and applicable industry standards.
Maintain accurate documentation related to subcontract fabrication activities, including subcontract agreements, schedules, correspondence, change documentation, and project records.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Office Supervisor or Director of Project Services.

Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings and specifications
Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings
Working knowledge of structural steel detailing, material procurement, fabrication, welding, surface preparation/coatings, galvanizing, quality control and shipping processes
Working knowledge of common structural steel industry standards, specifications and quality requirements; familiarity with AISC certification requirements and applicable AWS welding codes preferred
Strong professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, subcontract fabricators, vendors, project managers, engineers and internal operations teams
Ability to communicate scope, schedule, drawing and material requirements, quality expectations, changes and risks clearly, accurately and in a timely manner
Ability to lead difficult schedule, quality or performance discussions professionally while maintaining accountability and productive business relationships
Ability to evaluate subcontractor and vendor capabilities, capacity, schedules, quality systems and overall performance
Working knowledge of purchase orders, subcontract agreements, change management and basic project cost and schedule controls
Physical Demands:
Stand OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
Walk OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift. The distances walked will range from a distance of a few feet to several hundred feet.
Sit FREQUENTLY to CONTINUOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
Lift weights up to 30 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to head level, which includes the various prints, books, binders, and papers utilized to perform the usual work duties.
Lift weights up to 50 pounds RARELY to OCCASIONALLY from floor to chest level, which may include boxes of papers, books, etc.
