Job Title: Bus Aide

This is a part-time position, 5.5 hour block schedules, specific hours vary by route, Monday through Friday.
The position requires a split shift. Working both shifts daily is required.
The Bus Aide’s primary responsibilities include assisting the driver by responding to student needs while aboard the vehicle. The Bus Aide will assist with the loading, monitoring, and unloading of students while following established protocols for student safety.
Minimum Job Related Qualifications- Minimum 19 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment functional capacity evaluation, physical and drug/alcohol screening.
- Successful completion of the Student Transportation Bus Aide Training Program including:
First Aid/CPR training. - Must be able to attend the Bus Aide Training Class.
- Evidence of understanding and willingness to comply with the practices and procedures cited in the Handbook for Transportation Employees.
- Excellent attendance and work record.
- Sensitivity and ability to interact with students, co‑workers, teachers, administrators, other staff, and parents of other cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to receive and process verbal information as well as respond to nonverbal sounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and maintain balance while performing job related tasks.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
EquipmentThis position may require the ability to use levers, lifts, mechanical tools and cleaning supplies.
TravelLocal travel will be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Work in an office environment, school buildings and warehouse setting.
- Ability to lift, move and reposition objects and materials—frequently exerting force equal to lifting fifty (50) pounds.
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day‑to‑day tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
