Position Summary

The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily logistics operations within a laboratory environment, including managing a fleet of couriers, coordinating specimen/sample transportation, and maintaining accurate inventory levels. This role ensures timely, compliant, and efficient movement of materials while supporting overall lab operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of courier staff, including scheduling, routing, and performance monitoring
  • Ensure timely pickup and delivery of laboratory specimens, supplies, and documents
  • Monitor fleet usage, maintenance schedules, and vehicle compliance (licenses, inspections, etc.)
  • Optimize delivery routes to improve efficiency and reduce costs

Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using tracking systems
  • Conduct regular audits and cycle counts
  • Coordinate ordering and replenishment to prevent shortages or overstock

Logistics Coordination

  • Ensure proper handling, packaging, and transport of lab materials in compliance with regulatory and safety standards
  • Collaborate with lab staff to prioritize urgent or time-sensitive deliveries
  • Troubleshoot delays, delivery issues, or operational disruptions

Compliance & Safety

  • Enforce adherence to OSHA, DOT, and laboratory safety regulations
  • Train staff on proper handling of biological or hazardous materials
  • Maintain documentation for audits and inspections
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate courier and logistics personnel
  • Develop schedules and manage staffing levels
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Track and report key performance metrics (delivery times, error rates, inventory accuracy)
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements

    Support implementation of logistics or inventory management systems

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Biology, or related field (preferred)
  • 3–5+ years of logistics, transportation, or inventory management experience
  • Prior experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or regulated environment strongly preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Knowledge of inventory systems and logistics software
  • Understanding of laboratory handling procedures and compliance standards
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure

Working Conditions & Schedule

  • Laboratory and warehouse environment
  • Schedule is typically a hybrid between 1st and 2nd shift based on business needs
  • Must be flexible and willing to work off-hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call support as needed
  • May require occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
