Position: Aim for the Stars Summer Camp Counselor
Job Title Aim for the Stars Summer Camp Counselor Department Aim for the Stars Essential Functions

Counselors will be active participants in all math/science camp activities throughout the week and will assist the teachers with a variety of tasks creating the goal of a memorable, fun camp experience for children. You will interact with children between 3rd-9th grade throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, encouraging them to try new things, and enforcing UNO protocols for health and safety.

The role of the counselor is to participate, build relationships, and have fun while being a positive role model. Counselors should be capable of sustaining energy and enthusiasm throughout the day from camper arrival to camper dismissal. Counselors need to be self-starters who are not afraid to jump in and participate with campers in activities or re-direct camper behavior in a positive way.

Work Schedule M: 7:30am-3:45pm T-F: 8:00am-3:45pm. (Will vary somewhat due to before/aftercare assignment if selected) Commit to working all eight weeks between June 1st and July 31st. Off July 4th week. Paid 30 minute lunch. Additional Duties

Escort and supervise campers to lunch, recess, restroom, and on and off campus field trips.

Chaperone camper drop off and pick up in the UNO East parking garage daily.

Required Qualifications

Must be outgoing and friendly. Must have an interest in science and/or math. Must be able to work with a range of school children and multiple teachers and counselors. Background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferably taught/counseled/participated in Aim for the Stars camp. Preferably attending or graduated from college. CPR and AED certificate for adult and child helpful. Although not required, preferably not working elsewhere on campus concurrent with AFTS position.

Regularly sit on chair and on floor, stands, walks back and forth across UNO Dodge Street campus, squats, lift up to 25lbs.,

may climb stairs. See, hear, effectively communicate with children 3rd-9th grade.

Work Environment

Noise level conducive to working with children in a classroom and outdoor setting. Camp staff utilizes the cell phone application "Group Me" on personal cell phones to communicate throughout the day.

Person business on phones is restricted to break time only.

Salary $16 per hour
