Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Center Construction
Turner & Townsend is a global professional services firm that supports clients across real‑estate, infrastructure, and energy sectors. This position requires the candidate to act as the key client interface, ensuring that project objectives are met through a value‑added cost management service.
The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, highly communicative, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Responsibilities include leadership and direction, embedding the firm’s purpose and values, and promoting excellence in service delivery.
Responsibilities- Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Provide cost planning and present final cost plans to clients.
- Collaborate with design services teams and general contractors on cost estimates.
- Reconcile changes and ensure contractor data accuracy.
- Conduct status meetings with general contractors and project owners to prepare cost estimate updates.
- Prepare written comments to contractor submissions, including executive summaries.
- Coordinate all sources of cost information for cost discussions and supplier inputs.
- Inform and drive engineering priorities based on cost impact.
- Resolve scheduling issues with minimal supervision.
- Manage cost checks and conduct valuations on larger projects.
- Participate in post‑contract cost variances and the change of control processes.
- Track contingency management and commitment logs.
- Prepare funding data presentations and coordinate VE sessions with stakeholders.
- Develop cost plans and estimates through the design phase, delivering updated cost plans at appropriate design milestones.
- Provide commercial input to design option engineering and value engineering exercises.
- Review contractor and subcontractor pricing and negotiate on behalf of the client.
- Perform quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage post‑contract cost variances and change control processes effectively.
- Conduct cost auditing and valuation work with a robust validation process.
- Produce monthly cost reports for presentation to the client.
- Negotiate and agree upon final accounts in a timely manner.
- Compile built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.
- Coach and mentor talent to realize their potential and celebrate successes.
- Maintain financial management, including internal margin tracking and monthly forecasting.
- Implement and maintain internal Business Management Systems and delivery methodologies.
- Serve as a role model for a collaborative, results‑driven culture.
- Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5‑7 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.
- RICS accreditation or actively working toward it (preferred).
- Experience leading cost management on medium to large construction projects of high complexity.
- Construction consultancy experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction technical matters, procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.
