Job Summary /Primary

Purpose:

The Music Instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Responsible for teaching individual and/or group music lessons.

* Actively participates in and supports the School of Music every week, and Sunday Worship Praise Team as needed.

* Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught. A record and summary of activities must be provided on a regular basis.

* Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.

* Required to actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts.

* Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.

* Attend all required department and facility meetings and training as assigned.

* All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and/or

Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent qualified performance experience.

* Two to five years of teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons.

* Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design or evidence of experience in curriculum development.

* A record of musical performance experience.

Qualifications:

* Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership.

* Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.

* Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.

* Is expected to start class on time with room set-up and reset room as required.

* A working knowledge of music literature.

* Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.

* A positive attitude and a willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.

* Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.

* English proficiency required;
Spanish language skills helpful.

* Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

* Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.

* Ability to collaborate and work within a team.

* Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

* Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters

* Strong independent judgement.

* General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
