Expelled Students Program (ESP), Secondary Success Program (SSP), and Blackburn – 2606 Hamilton Street, Omaha, NE 68131

Reports To: Program Director, Blackburn High School

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 months / Exempt

OSAA Level 5 / Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable agreement.

Position Purpose

The Assistant Program Directors of the Alternative Programs (Expelled Students Program, Secondary Success Program, Blackburn) are instructional leaders in the program. OPS seeks excellent leaders who can prepare all students for college, career, and community leadership. The Assistant Program Directors assume joint responsibility with the Program Director at Blackburn for the effective administration of the assigned Alternative Programs (Expelled Students Program, Secondary Success Program, Blackburn) and all facets of its instructional program.

These individuals will serve as the daily on-site leader at a designated alternative program site as the Program Director is housed at Blackburn.

Under the direction of the Program Director, this individual is responsible for supervising and evaluating all certified and non-certified staff assigned to the designated program. The Assistant Program Director is responsible for providing leadership in establishing expectations for student attendance, conduct, and learning performance. This individual will exhibit strong standards of professional ethics when relating to staff, students, parents, administration, and the community.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Keep abreast of developments in the middle and high school curriculum and instruction and assist in providing leadership in determining the appropriateness of incorporating current strategies.
  • Maintain the district’s overall mission, assist in supporting and implementing board policies and the academic action plan school-wide with staff and students.
  • Assist in developing and supporting curriculum and instructional growth to enhance educational opportunities for all students.
  • Under the direction of the Program Director, assume responsibility for creating and maintaining the school schedule and using school data to inform and advise decision making.
  • Responsible for enrolling and onboarding students entering the Expelled Students Program.
  • Monitor and provide staff development on the use of Infinite Campus, including all the functions therein, including but not limited to attendance, grade books, student information, and discipline.
  • Monitor and use relevant data to effect change in instructional practices enhancing student learning.
  • Maintain effective communication with all supporting divisions within the Omaha Public School district, staff, students, and community.
  • Assist in the maintenance of accurate budgetary information essential to the running of the educational facility.
  • Assist in providing leadership for a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instructional initiatives are student-focused and aligned with the District’s mission, beliefs, and school goals and improvement plans.
  • Works collaboratively with the Program Director and Leadership staff in completing teacher appraisals including, but not limited to, conducting observations, feedback conferences, and coaching visits for continuous growth.
  • Adhere to the district evaluation process related to both classified and non-classified staff.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours or weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree with a major emphasis in educational administration and supervision required.
  • A valid Nebraska Administrative Certificate with endorsement in the area of secondary administration and supervision.
  • A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience required. Successful teaching experience in a multiculturally diverse urban setting preferred.
