Position: JROTC Army Instructor (Applicant Pool)

Overview

Job Title: JROTC Army Instructor

Location: TBD

Reports To: Building Principal

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: per negotiated agreement / Exempt

Salary (2025/26): Step 1 with a Bachelor's Degree: $51,200;
Step 1 with a Master’s Degree: $57,820. Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable negotiated agreement.

Position

Purpose:

Provide JROTC students with learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Plans for, teaches, and facilitates learning for all students. Creates a positive learning environment. Maintains academic progress, records, and discipline. Works collaboratively with students, parents and staff to meet students’ needs.

Educates students to prepare them for the 21st Century; college or career ready.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Education:

    Minimum of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. (Bachelor’s degree in Education is preferred).
  • A valid NE Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsement(s) in JROTC.
  • Approval from United States Army Cadet Command.
  • Staff Sergeant (SSG) or higher.
  • Retired from the Army for less than three years OR if still active duty, must have retirement orders within six months of retirement or terminal leave date.
  • Experience in supply, administration, drill, and ceremonies.
  • Experience teaching or working with youth groups preferred.
  • A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Best Instructional Practices in the JROTC Classroom.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
  • Evidence of willingness and ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
  • Ability to foster positive human relationships and work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community.
  • Willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to a continuous quest for quality education.
Responsibilities
  • Assist JROTC Senior Instructor with building JROTC program.
  • Develop students’ cognitive capacity and respect for learning.
  • Positively foster students’ self-esteem.
  • Work with and understand a diverse student population.
  • Integrate leadership, technology, and communication into the curriculum.
  • Plan for and guide the learning process to help students achieve program objectives.
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Implement useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures.
  • Select and use effective instructional methods and learning materials.
  • Establish a cooperative relationship with all assigned students.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians/staff.
  • Engage in professional growth activities through ongoing job-related knowledge and skill development.
  • Collaborate to achieve the school’s program goals and support the District’s vision.
  • Integrate leadership, technology, and communication themes with a diverse population.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the board of education through the Superintendent of Schools or the Trustees.

Equipment

This position may require the use of basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must comply with OPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel

Limited travel between schools and central offices will be required. Occasional travel outside of Omaha or Nebraska may be required.
