Educare of Omaha, Inc. is a non‑profit organization that has a collaborative partnership between Early Head Start/Head Start, Omaha Public Schools and the Buffett Early Childhood Fund. Comprised of the two Educare Omaha Schools (Kellom and Indian Hill) and three Early Learning Centers (Skinner, Gateway and Kennedy), the mission of Educare of Omaha, Inc. is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children ages 0 to 5 through the provision of evidence‑based education, health, nutritional, social, family engagement and other services to enrolled children and their families.
The Substitute Teacher plays an essential role in the classroom by providing educational, social, and emotional development for all students by following the program standards of Educare of Omaha, Early Head Start, Sixpence, Nebraska Department of Education, and NAEYC. The Substitute Teacher enhances student learning during the period of absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining the program’s educational requirement as well as meeting the children’s individual needs.
Assigned to one Educare school (Kellom, Indian Hill, Skinner, Gateway, or Kennedy).
Tier 1 – Center-Based On-Call FloaterFlexible, on‑call schedule (up to 3 shifts per week).
Provide classroom coverage for daily absences, planning blocks, or short‑term needs.

Responsibilities- Provide consistent support in a set classroom to one Educare school where there is an ongoing vacancy.
- Float across Educare sites as needed.
- Help maintain continuity of care and instruction for children and families.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and good teaching practice dictates.
- Maintain efficient classroom management.
- Take necessary and reasonable actions to ensure the safety of children, materials, and center equipment.
- Communicate a sustainable relationship with parents, pupils, school personnel, and members of the public in a confidential, polite, and refined manner.
- Comply with written and oral instructions.
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in education (Early Childhood preferred) is preferred.
- Active Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or willingness to obtain (if working 30 hours or more weekly).
- Two years of early childhood experience in a group setting; preferred.
- Ability to pass a background check that meets compliance standards.
- Up to 96 hours vacation and 96 hours sick time in the first year.
- Hourly rate of $20 per hour.
