Overview

This twelve‑month, non‑tenure track position, based in Columbus, NE, provides regional leadership for Nebraska Extension’s 4‑H and Youth Development Program. The incumbent delivers programs, engages 4‑H clientele, and supports Nebraska Extension’s land‑grant mission by promoting student recruitment, science literacy, and lifelong learning. Graduate‑level candidates may be considered for an open‑rank educator appointment; undergraduate‑level candidates for a full‑time instructor position, which is renewable annually for up to five years.

Programmatic Responsibilities (≈80%)
  • Exemplify positive, professional behavior toward colleagues, clients, and partners.
  • Develop, deliver, and assess innovative educational programs that reach local, regional, statewide, and national audiences.
  • Build and sustain a strong local and regional clientele base with documented results.
  • Employ technology and strategies to design and implement effective engagement platforms.
  • Teach collaboratively with assistants, educators, and specialists, fostering research‑based decision making.
  • Collaborate with Extension specialists to conduct applied research and amplify findings through multiple platforms.
  • Serve in multidisciplinary teams to translate research‑based information to stakeholders.
  • Identify and address high‑priority issues through partnerships at local, regional, and statewide levels.
  • Seek funding and partnerships to expand Extension’s program reach and generate revenue.
  • Lead high‑performing teams and support youth development initiatives throughout the region.
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop programs that connect diverse audiences, measure impact, and report results to stakeholders, commissioners, and professional platforms.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Support youth development programs in all assignments tied to the role.
  • Complete PEARS data entry, annual IANR reporting, and produce an impact report.
Organizational Citizenship / Lead Educator Role (≈20%)
  • Create a robust Extension presence by working with local faculty, staff, and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with advisory or policy groups such as the Extension Board, Ag Society, or County Commissioners.
  • Understand and adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity compliance efforts.
  • Accept committee assignments and other administrative responsibilities as requested.

Travel:
Some travel within the region is required. Candidates must meet UNL driver standards and hold a valid driver’s license.

Note:

This position is not eligible for employment‑based permanent residency sponsorship but may sponsor temporary work authorization (e.g., H‑1B) for the successful candidate.

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in youth development, education, or a closely related field, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, or a closely related field with expectation of pursuing a master’s during the appointment period.
  • Successful experience teaching in formal or non‑formal settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate through publications, presentations, web, and social media.
  • Experience working with youth and youth organizations, including understanding positive youth development and program management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in team leadership and organizational skills.
  • Training or experience recruiting, training, mentoring, and managing volunteers.
  • Ability to engage diverse and underserved audiences.
  • Fluency in a language other than English (Spanish preferred).
