Description of Work

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Nebraska‑Lincoln (OLLI) is a membership‑based lifelong learning program for adults 50+ that offers noncredit courses, lectures, events, and travel opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage all aspects of event offerings from small luncheons to programs with 25–300+ attendees.
  • Serve as primary contact for event requirements.
  • Oversee planning, content, logistics, and budgets for annual and special events.
  • Work with volunteer committees, manage schedules, and supervise volunteers.
  • Handle correspondence, assist with securing presenters, entertainers, and seek member input.

The position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work.
  • Associate degree plus four years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work.
  • High school diploma or equivalency plus six years of experience in event planning, hospitality, or related work.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, presentation software, and database management.
  • Proficiency in hosting and managing virtual events on Zoom or similar platform.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and flexibility in performing work assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a non‑profit, academic, or lifelong learning community environment.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
