Job Description Summary
Assists students with coursework, study strategies, and using college software and resources. Provides informal tutorial assistance in a range of general education courses as well as in an area of expertise such as business/accounting, the natural sciences and health careers, or informational technology. Supports students in the use of software and other technology used to complete coursework. Communicates regularly with faculty, advisors, and other LTC staff regarding curriculum, materials, and students’ needs and challenges with course material.
Collaborates with other staff and faculty to create effective learning supports.
- Assists students in an area of expertise such as natural sciences, health careers, business/accounting, or informational technology.
- Assists students in developing and applying appropriate study/learning strategies.
- Assists students with coursework, standard college software programs and resources.
- Schedules, prepares, and facilitates workshops, study sessions, and exam reviews.
- Communicates regularly with faculty, advisors, and other academic support staff regarding curriculum, materials, and student needs and challenges with course information.
- Collaborates with other staff and faculty to insure effective tutorial support.
- Promotes academic support services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff and students.
- Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
Schedule may vary based on student needs. This is an on‑premise position at the South Omaha Campus.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic math, English, writing, computer and study skills.
- Knowledge of current college supported software applications and ability to learn a wide variety of software.
- Knowledge of learning assistance techniques.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and understanding in stressful situations.
- Ability to work well independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
- Associate degree.
- One year of related work experience in an educational environment.
- Knowledge of learning assistance techniques strongly desired.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience considered.
- Must pass background check.
