Job Title: Elementary Assistant Principal
Location: Conestoga Elementary, 2115 Burdette Street, Omaha, NE 68110
Reports To: Building Principal
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 10-month / Exempt

Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA) Level 3; salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.

Position
Purpose:
The Elementary Assistant Principal works jointly with the principal to administer the school and its instructional program, supervising staff, setting student expectations, and ensuring professional ethics.
- Keep abreast of elementary curriculum developments and lead on incorporating appropriate strategies.
- Support and implement board policies and the school‑wide academic action plan.
- Assist in developing curriculum and instructional growth to enhance education for all students.
- Assist in providing professional development to staff.
- Monitor data to improve instructional practices.
- Maintain effective communication with district divisions, staff, students, and community.
- Assist in maintaining accurate budgetary information.
- Lead a collaborative team to ensure student‑focused curricular initiatives aligned with district goals.
- Cooperate with principal and leadership staff in teacher observations, coaching, and feedback.
- Adhere to district evaluation processes for staff.
- Work outside regular hours or weekends to supervise school events.
- Minimum of a Master’s degree with emphasis in educational administration and supervision.
- Valid Nebraska Administrative Certificate with endorsement in administration and supervision.
- At least five years of successful teaching experience, with urban experience preferred.
- Clear understanding of an urban school district’s philosophy and purpose.
- Empathy for leading a diverse urban educational environment.
- Philosophy that all students can and will learn.
- Record of instructional leadership, academic excellence, and personal integrity.
- Knowledge of current educational trends affecting elementary schools.
- Use of current technology in the educational environment.
- Ability to manage school time for instruction and business.
- Promotion of lifelong learning through professional development and cultural proficiency.
- Implementation of Board policies and the Strategic Action Plan.
- Positive human relationship skills and effective collaboration with students, staff, and community.
- Continuous pursuit of quality education.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal and Central Office Administrators.
EquipmentMay require use of interactive boards, iPads, computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines, with compliance to OPS guidelines.
TravelTravel between schools and central offices; occasional travel outside Omaha or Nebraska may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands- Rapid response in emergency situations.
- Strong organization, time‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Work in school building environments.
- Contact with district personnel and stakeholders.
- Direct supervision by building administration for day‑to‑day tasks.
- Interaction with diverse populations requiring tact and diplomacy.
- Responsive to stakeholder needs with a positive attitude.
- Provide quick, responsive customer service to internal and external clients.
- Expected to perform all duties and work scheduled hours; approval needed for deviations.
- Required to arrive dressed in a manner reflecting a positive image of Omaha Public Schools.
- Regular attendance is essential.
This full‑time, exempt certified position is governed by state laws, Board of Education policies, and collective bargaining agreements if applicable. Employment is contingent upon verification of licensing, background checks, U.S. citizenship or legal authorization, tuberculosis test, and contract execution.
