Nature of Work
This is professional library work that involves management of library branch services or system‑wide internal operation division (e.g., collection development, collection processing, circulation, and facilities). The work includes allocating funds, formulating policies, solving administrative problems, and recommending the hiring and termination of subordinate staff. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties and receives general guidance from a supervisor.
Education& Experience Requirement
A combination of four years of experience in professional library work, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity in the field of specialization, and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited (ALA) school of Library Science.
Special QualificationsMust register for Nebraska Public Librarian Certification within 30 days of hiring and complete the continuing education requirements to maintain certification while employed. Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to locations throughout the City during the course of the work day, and must be able to work flexible schedules that include evenings and weekends.
Salary Range$76,918.40 to $ annually, with step increases.
BenefitsForty‑hour work week. Paid leave: twelve days vacation; five days management; fifteen days sick; and fifteen holidays. Employee group health insurance (medical, vision, dental), defined benefit pension plan, Social Security, and additional benefits.
Examination InformationThe position requires a structured interview designed to assess job‑related knowledge, skills, and abilities. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 60% to be admitted to the final eligibility list.
Veteran PointsFive points for veteran preference is awarded for proof of service (e.g., DD‑214) that includes date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. An additional five points for disability is awarded for proof of eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs within the last 12 months.
