Reports To: Building Program Director
Work Schedule: 188 days plus 18 additional duty days, Exempt.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, per negotiated agreement.
Position PurposeThe Dean of Students reports to the Program Director and supports the building Administration Team in the application of the Student Code of Conduct, Attendance, and other student and school matters. This individual assists the Administration Team in supervising student activities during the school day, responding to discipline referrals promptly, following building procedures for the Student Code of Conduct and Due Process protocols, and maintaining timely communication with the building administration and parents/guardians regarding necessary disciplinary actions.
The Dean of Students will exhibit strong professional ethics in all interactions and may perform other duties designated by the Program Director.
- Promote a safe, conducive learning environment.
- Serve as a member of the building leadership team.
- Monitor student behavior, attendance, and academic progress; provide appropriate feedback to teachers, students, and parents/guardians.
- Maintain the district and school missions, supporting and implementing board policies, the academic action plan, and school guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Program Director, Administration Team, and staff to meet student needs.
- Conduct coaching visits and provide feedback for staff growth.
- Guide decision‑making and problem‑solving in relation to student, family, or team needs.
- Participate in professional development related to curriculum, cultural proficiency, and diversity.
- Communicate effectively with all supporting divisions, students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members.
- Build positive human relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Master’s Degree in education or related field.
- Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsements; administration/supervision for secondary preferred.
- Minimum four years successful teaching experience; multicultural diverse urban setting preferred.
- Experience in alternative education preferred.
- Clear understanding of alternative school philosophy and urban district function.
- Empathy for leading a diverse urban educational environment.
- Demonstrated instructional leadership and academic excellence.
- Current knowledge of educational trends affecting high schools.
- Strong relationships skills with students, staff, parents, administration, community.
- Sound judgment and confidentiality handling.
- Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, time‑management skills.
- Technology proficiency (Infinite Campus, Microsoft Suite).
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Assists in implementing Board policies and the Academic Action Plan.
- Willingness to pursue continuous quality education.
- Knowledge of OPS mission and goals.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Program Director and central office administrators.
Equipment, Travel, WorkplaceMay require use of SMART boards, iPads, basic office equipment. Limited travel may be required. Must respond to emergencies promptly.
Terms of EmploymentFull‑time exempt certified position, governed by state laws, Board of Education policies, and the Teacher Contract. Terms contingent upon verification of credentials, background check, citizenship or legal authorization, tuberculosis test if required, and execution of Teacher Contract.
