Location: Teacher Administrative Center (TAC), 3215 Cuming St., Omaha, NE 68131

Reports To: Executive Director of Elementary Education

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12‑month / Exempt

Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA), Level 6 / Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.

Position

Purpose:

The Elementary Teaching and Learning Consultant has responsibility for consultation, coordination, and improvement of elementary education instruction, curriculum, and assessment relative to the goals of the school district and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Support. This individual works to provide educational opportunities which will enable all students to achieve their highest potential through work with teachers, instructional leadership teams and staff, students, parents, and the community.

This individual also has responsibility for the district‑wide development, coordination and articulation of the elementary program, and the Strategic Plan of Action.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with other elementary school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, model, support, and coach instruction.
  • Provides expertise in the use of curriculum, instruction, assessments and feedback.
  • Supervises K‑6 elementary curriculum, instruction, and programming.
  • Works in collaboration as part of an network team of support for schools, including collaboration and partnership with school staff and all central office administration staff.
  • Writes and develops K‑6 elementary curriculum as needed.
  • Develops and trains K‑6 elementary in blended and online learning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of best research‑based instructional practices.
  • Implements and ensures best practices in K‑6 elementary are implemented in all K‑6 elementary classrooms.
  • Conducts instructional staff observations and coaching visits.
  • Creates and delivers professional development throughout the year, including Professional Learning days and remote learning sessions, for K‑6 elementary teachers and instructional leaders.
  • Provides additional support to all new teachers in K‑6 elementary education.
  • Administers OPS staff appraisal process with approval from Elementary Executive Director.
  • Models best practices in providing in‑person and online professional development to K‑6 elementary education teachers and leaders.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Works with an understanding of a diverse student population and equity and leads with the belief that every child, every day will be prepared for success.
  • Shows evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by district policy as well as the State Board of Education.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission & vision of the OPS district.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Master’s Degree with appropriate coursework in Elementary Education, Administration, Supervision, Personnel, Educational Psychology, or related field required.
  • A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in the area of administration and supervision, required.
  • A minimum of five years successful teaching experience in elementary instruction preferred.
  • Knowledge of the process and curriculum content related to elementary instruction.
  • Knowledge of best instructional practices.
  • Understanding of and ability to support the implementation of the District’s Action Plan.
  • Exemplary organizational skills.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and deliver high‑quality professional development.
  • Ability to provide instructional coaching.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills pertinent to positive relationships and the ability to work effectively with instructional staff, students, parents, administrators, and the community.
