Special Education Educational Assistant - West Campus
Westside Community Schools, West Campus, Omaha, Nebraska. Position:
Special Education Educational Assistant for the 2025-26 school year.
Assisting teachers with the needs of Special Education students. Under the supervision of certified staff, assist with educational, social, behavioral and other needs of special education students and perform classroom and school duties. Essential functions are performed according to the students’ needs and may include related work as directed.
Responsibilities- Assist with instruction and behavior support of students with disabilities under the supervision of the special education teacher and other certified staff, including tasks related to goals and objectives unique to each assigned student.
- Perform a variety of tasks in both general education and special education classrooms and other areas of the school, including supervision of students on school grounds such as the playground, halls, bathrooms, lunchroom, drop‑off and pick‑up areas, and on field trips.
- Provide feeding and assistance with personal needs of students, including bathroom needs, as necessary.
- Assist with preparation of materials and performance of record‑keeping and other clerical duties.
- Maintain timely and reliable daily attendance.
- Perform other essential functions as needed to meet the needs of each school and its students.
- High school diploma.
- For positions in Title I‑funded programs, a high school diploma and either an associate’s degree, two years of college, or a passing score on a state or local assessment demonstrating ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and math.
- Previous teaching or aide experience in an educational environment involving students with disabilities is preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Proficiency in applicable curriculum areas and technology.
- Ability to follow written or oral instructions accurately and within required time frames.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical and mental work, including sitting, talking, lifting, kneeling, bending, reaching; may also be required to stand, walk, push, and lift a student or equipment.
- Effective communication and cooperation with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Adept handling of situations involving behavioral or other social difficulties.
- Adaptability to changes in duties.
- Compliance with Board policies, District rules, regulations, practices, and applicable laws.
