Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Medical Education will be a key member of Dean’s senior administrative team. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for UME (Phoenix campus), this person will oversee Curriculum, Evaluation, Educational Simulation, and will collaborate closely with the Office of Student Affairs. The Associate Dean for Medical Education works with the Office of Accreditation and Quality Improvement to ensure that the school and medical education program maintain compliance with LCME accreditation requirements.

Education

Manage the medical education program curriculum while collaborating closely with the Associate Dean for Medical Education (Phoenix campus) and faculty with significant teaching responsibilities to develop and implement modifications to the current curriculum. Work closely with all faculty and staff in the Office of Medical Education to ensure the restructured curriculum is developed, employed, and modified to provide the best learning opportunities for the medical students.

Clinical

Education

Support and evaluate the clinical years of the medical education program curriculum to ensure students are provided with appropriate experiences. Track curriculum delivery, including appropriate oversight of content delivery, learning opportunities, and sequencing coordination across programs and courses to ensure a harmonized and integrated curriculum that meets the needs of the student experience and the program objectives.

Evaluation

Ensures that student evaluation data is used to refine, assess and continually improve all aspects of medical student education.

  • Develop a competency-based assessment system to promote consistency across courses and programs, optimize student assessment data quality, foster the developmental mindset among faculty and students, and promote fairness and transparency in assessment processes.
  • Implement policies and procedures supporting best practices for student assessment.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to train faculty in assessment methods, develop processes for regularly providing feedback and continuing education to faculty assessors, and manage conflicts of interest in student assessment systems.
Accreditation

Participate in activities necessary to maintain LCME accreditation. Participate in the quality improvement programs of the Office of Accreditation and Quality Improvement.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Quality Improvement to develop a comprehensive plan for program, phase, and course evaluation and facilitate programmatic improvements as indicated.
  • Communicate programmatic evaluation and strategic priorities for improvement annually and lead curriculum improvement efforts involving key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Quality Improvement to ensure compliance with all accreditation processes and standards regarding curriculum, assessment, and programmatic evaluation.
  • Assist with LCME documentation and site visit preparation efforts, overseeing staff efforts where applicable.
Admissions

Works with the Office of Admissions and Office of Student Affairs to identify, recruit, and admit an academically strong, diverse class.

Student Affairs

Works with the Office of Student Affairs to develop and maintain high quality career development, support, and educational enhancement programs.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to address student concerns regarding assessment and processing grade disputes.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and the Education Program Committee to identify and support students’ concerns, communicate committee findings, and track associated outcomes.
Research Development

Works with the Office of Research to help identify research opportunities for learners and streamline processes for research development.
