Education & Operations Assistant – Part-Time

Job Summary

Sylvan Learning of Omaha is looking for a part-time Education & Operations Assistant to work alongside our Center Director and instructional team. This role combines student instruction, family communication, and day-to-day center operations
.

We're looking for someone who is dependable, personable, organized, and proactive. Someone who can work independently, recognize what needs to be done, and take initiative to support students, families, and teachers.

This position offers opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, increase hours, and potentially grow into a full-time position
.

Responsibilities Student & Educational Support
  • Deliver individualized instruction using Sylvan's instructional programs
  • Assess students and monitor progress
  • Review student education plans and communicate concerns or updates to the Director
  • Prepare instructional materials and support daily instructional flow
  • Support teachers and students as needed
Family & Conference Support
  • Prepare for and schedule ongoing conferences
  • Communicate with families by phone, text, and email
  • Assist families when the Director is unavailable
  • Build positive relationships with students and families
  • Grow into independently preparing for and delivering family conferences
Center Operations
  • Assist with opening and closing the center
  • Keep the center clean, organized, and prepared for students
  • Organize materials and maintain the token store
  • Assist with teacher schedules and daily center organization
  • Communicate with teachers regarding student needs and daily operations
  • Take initiative to identify and complete tasks that keep the center running smoothly

This is not a formal management position
, but it is an opportunity to develop leadership skills and take on increasing responsibility over time.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation and ability to consistently arrive on time
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable working with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to learn and navigate technology and new systems
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle student and family information appropriately
  • Successful completion of a background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • College coursework or degree in education, child development, business, communications, or a related field
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, childcare, or education
  • Experience in customer service or administration
  • Experience working with children, students, or families

Schedule & Compensation
  • 20–25 hours per week
  • $19–$22/hour
    , based on experience and qualifications, paid on the 5th and 20th of each month.
  • Consistent availability Monday–Thursday and every other Saturday
  • Generally 4–5 hours per shift
  • Two closing shifts per week required
  • Friday morning hours are available but not required
  • Some flexibility outside of regular hours is preferred for assessments, conferences, and other center needs
  • Additional hours may be available, with potential to grow into full-time
  • Discounted Sylvan services for immediate family members

Our ideal candidate can consistently work 5 days per week
, with most shifts during our busiest instructional hours.

Typical availability:

Monday: 12:30–5:30 PM or 1:30–6:30 PM
Tuesday: 12:30–5:30 PM or 2:30–7:30 PM
Wednesday: 12:30–5:30 PM or 1:30–6:30 PM
Thursday: 12:30–5:30 PM or 2:30–7:30 PM
Friday: Optional/as needed, typically 9:00 AM–11:00 AM or 12:00 PM
Saturday: Every other Saturday, 9:00–11:30 AM, with occasional extension to 12:00 PM

Specific days and hours may be discussed based on candidate availability and center needs.

Training

No prior Sylvan experience is required. Training will include:
