Role Description

The Piano and Guitar Instructor is a part-time, on-site role based at the Jewish Community Center of Omaha in the Omaha Metropolitan Area. This role is responsible for providing individual instruction in piano and guitar to learners of various ages and skill levels, using appropriate teaching methods and materials.

Responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, preparing students for performances or recitals, and maintaining a positive, supportive learning environment.

Our office coordinates schedules for the music staff based on their availability. Hours could be as little as 1hr per week with potential of up to 8hrs or more. The instructor will collaborate with other program staff to contribute to music and arts events, and support broader educational initiatives. Additional duties include keeping accurate attendance and progress records, communicating through the office with parents and caregivers as needed, and ensuring the safe and respectful use of instruments and facilities.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Piano and Guitar Instruction, with the ability to teach a range of styles and levels.
  • Strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge to support comprehensive instruction.
  • Experience in Music Education, including planning curricula and adapting teaching methods to diverse learners.
  • Prior teaching or coaching experience in community, school, or private lesson settings.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, teens, and adults, and to foster an inclusive, encouraging classroom environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with professionalism in interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Organizational skills for lesson planning, scheduling, and maintaining accurate student records.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Availability to work a part-time schedule that will include evenings and/or weekends based on program needs.
