JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYMCC’s Continuing Education Division is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to provide fun, enriching, and accessible learning opportunities for members of our community. This position will offer various teaching opportunities throughout the year and will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging, interactive, and accessible non-credit courses focused on learning and using American Sign Language.
The ASL Instructor will create a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students can develop practical communication skills while gaining an understanding and appreciation of Deaf culture and the Deaf community. Courses may be designed for learners with varying levels of ASL experience, from beginners to more advanced students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fluency or advanced proficiency in American Sign Language.
Strong knowledge of ASL grammar, vocabulary, conversational conventions, and Deaf culture.
Previous experience teaching ASL, working with ASL learners, or providing language instruction preferred.
Experience working with diverse learners and varying levels of language proficiency.
Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and classroom-management skills.
Ability to create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Commitment to respecting Deaf culture and the diversity of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
This position will have random teaching opportunities throughout the year.
MCC holds classes at multiple locations throughout the Metro area including Fremont and Blair.
Most classes are held weeknights and weekends.
