The University of Nebraska at Omaha seeks a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor ( VAP ) in German for an 18-month appointment to begin January 4, 2027. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester (eight courses per academic year) at all levels of the German curriculum. The specialization is open; however, candidates should be a capable of teaching a wide variety of German language and culture courses.
This position is not renewable.
Significant experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching German at multiple levels, a focus on student retention, and expertise in the integration of technology in the classroom, especially in teaching both in-person and online modes, are essential. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and supportive participant in department activities, especially the German program’s weekly Stammtisch.

Department World Languages and Literature
Work ScheduleWork Schedule M-F;
Occasionally the department hosts events on weekends, such as conferences and workshops. At times, classes are offered in the evening (after 4:30 pm)
Minimum qualifications:
Native or near-native German language proficiency and a PhD or ABD status in German Studies, German literature, German linguistics, or related disciplines. ABD candidates should preferably have a defense date scheduled.
