Nature of Work:This is advanced technical and supervisory engineering work performed in the field, a laboratory, or an office. Work involves supervising and participating in the design, planning, and scheduling of projects. Employees are responsible for managing programs and program budgets, supervising subordinates within the program, coordinating among departments, and meeting with contractors, consultants, City staff, the general public, and other stakeholders to discuss Public Works issues.
An employee in this classification exercises considerable independence in the performance of duties, oversees the work of subordinates, and receives general guidance from a superior.
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Ten (10) years of professional technical experience or construction management experience, five (5) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity and/or project/contractor management capacity
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications:
- Must be able to drive or coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the city during the course of the workday
$79,622.40 with step increases to $ annually

Candidates must be a current or former City of Omaha employee in any of the following categories:
Part-time, Seasonal, Classified, Unclassified, or Probationary, who has worked, at the time of application, at least 1,040 cumulative hours within the last 5 years and has been employed by the City at sometime within the last 18 months and who meets the qualifications as set forth in the posting.

The examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by March 18, 2026 (passing score 60%).
Final eligibility list will be the training and experience form weighted 100%.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks
- Knowledge of construction principles and practices, materials used, and tools and equipment common to the construction industry
- Knowledge of engineering drafting techniques
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and codes governing public and private construction work
- Knowledge of soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures
- Knowledge of current construction materials and labor costs
- Skill in preparing, interpreting, and reviewing engineering plans, blueprints and specifications
- Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of a group of subordinates
- Ability to perform precise survey work, perform engineering computations, and produce field notes
- Ability to understand oral or written instructions
- Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public
- Ability to sit or stand continuously, to climb, reach, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, push, pull, lift, and type up occasionally
- Ability to move objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally, objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds frequently, and lighter objects continuously
