Position Summary
HDR Engineering is currently seeking an Electrical Distribution Project Manager/Team Lead to join our growing, nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals. The role involves building and leading a team of overhead and underground line design professionals, managing distribution line projects regionally and nationally, and supporting business development within the Nebraska area and across the country.
Primary Responsibilities- Managing and leading distribution projects throughout the entire project life cycle, including scope, proposal development, project team assignment, execution, closeout, quality control, schedule, and budget management.
- Working independently or supervising Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, CADD Technicians, and administrative staff.
- Interacting with utility and developer clients.
- Leading the QA/QC process on projects per HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
- Overseeing non‑engineering project components such as public involvement, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, construction management, and related services.
- Building, developing, and supervising a local distribution team, overseeing workload, quality, utilization, morale, training, and performing annual performance and compensation reviews.
- Leveraging company staff to execute work and deliver world‑class services to clients in the region.
- Performing client management, project management, staff supervision, and technical support activities.
- Coordinating with HDR's Talent Acquisition team to develop a hiring plan for distribution professionals.
- Engaging in broader business development activities with existing and target national clients.
- Minimum of 4 years of distribution design experience.
- Excellent client management, marketing, and business development skills with contacts/relationships in power delivery.
- PE license in an applicable engineering field.
- Experience managing staff, clients, contracts, and hiring for an engineering consulting firm.
- Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams and technical managers.
- Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- PMP certification.
- Experience as client manager or project manager for select clients.
- Experience with data center and renewables projects.
- Development of technical papers or presentations at industry conferences.
- Experience estimating costs and developing a bill of materials.
- Familiarity with electrical and planning analysis software such as CYM, ETAP, or Milsoft.
- Experience with pole loading analysis design tools (e.g., PLS‑CADD, O‑calc, Spida Calc, or Pole Foreman).
- Proficiency with CAD software packages for electrical distribution (PLS‑CADD, Micro Station, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
- Experience with new business designs for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Experience with reliability, grid modernization, and conversion projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 7 years of related experience.
- Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project (Access experience is a plus).
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture.
