Role Summary
The Senior Mechanical Estimator will complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. This position provides overall management direction and expertise in estimating, scheduling, quality control and commissioning in the mechanical/electrical scopes of work for select projects and for M/E personnel. The role collects and assembles data, develops estimates, generates bid analysis and develops new business opportunities.
Key Role Responsibilities – Core- Participates in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture.
- Completes routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities.
- Develops budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information using the automated M/E estimating system.
- Reviews mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and completes systems analysis for select projects.
- Coordinates mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process.
- Provides input during the subcontractor selection process.
- Develops sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet schedule requirements.
- Identifies potential quality problems to assist in developing constructability review reports.
- Performs job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
- Assists with the shop drawing/submittal process and commissioning process, including pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
- Develops budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information.
- Reviews mechanical and electrical options, completes systems analysis and recommends best system for the project and provides value‑engineering suggestions.
- Coordinates the mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process.
- Provides scheduling input during projects and develops sequencing requirements of various systems.
- Reviews design documents, identifies potential quality problems and helps develop quality control programs.
- Performs job inspections and develops pre‑functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
- Reviews and approves shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team and generates the Commissioning Plan.
- Verifies contractor performance of functional test and submits commissioning documentation to owners.
- Provides mentoring to less experienced co‑workers and creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products.
- Negotiates subcontracts with subcontractors, purchases equipment, builds relationships and represents the M/E department and JE Dunn at external community events.
- Assumes responsibility for resource allocation, staffing of assigned projects and ensuring reimbursability requirements are met.
- Leads, supports and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn and implements JE Dunn’s non‑discrimination policy.
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills and presentation ability.
- Proficiency in MS Office, basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
- Understanding of construction processes and project support.
- Proficiency in required construction technology, BIM, scheduling software and Lean process.
- Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and generate future work through building relationships (Advanced).
- Ability to construct a project from start to finish and prepare the project budget, GMP or hard bid.
- Ability to assist marketing team with presentation and marketing activities and manage a team.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
- Equivalent relevant will be considered.
- 10+ years construction management experience (Preferred).
- Valid and unrestricted drivers license required.
