Responsibilities
Senior Engineer - Thermal Energy is responsible for supporting the analysis, coordination, and recommendation of new and modifications to OPPD thermal energy resources. The responsibilities include developing strategies and collaboration in origination efforts for thermal energy resources including technical guidance and coordination of funding, rate impacts and communication for these efforts which are vitally important. The position will also coordinate the inclusion of these resources into the business plans of business units associated with execution and operations.
The position will engage at the national, state, and local levels creating strong relationships with our customer owners, community groups, state and local government officials and Nebraska utilities.
- Engineering analysis and evaluation of technical generation and balance of plant specifications (mechanical/electrical)
- Support department as subject matter expert of related engineering fields
- Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for wide variety of engineering activities
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations
- Perform complex engineering tasks and perform intricate studies
- Work on multiple projects ranging in size
- Understand and independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad area of assignments and related fields
- Research advancements in the industry and develop industry wide expertise
- Assist in the development and implementation of plans and programs (1-2 years in scope) to achieve OPPD strategic objectives and deliver desired outputs and assigned KAs
- Analyze and recommend thermal energy generation resource options which provide the best result for investment for OPPD
- Align with resource planning to assure the attributes for thermal energy generation resources are updated and accurate
- Provide input for reporting status of thermal energy generation resources
- Evaluate and engage in communication strategies that support OPPD's efforts to advance and site thermal energy generation resources
- Align with corporate Strategic Initiatives (e.g. Integrated Energy Marketplace (IEM)) and support those initiatives going forward that relate to thermal energy generation resources
- Identify key signposts for advancements in thermal energy generation technologies and incorporate into planning considerations
- Align and drive integration of thermal energy generation resources in support of Economic Development and Customer Service
- Engage in RFP/RFI development, negotiations and execution for outside consulting, EPC contractors and major equipment
- Create strong relationships with customer owners, community groups, state and local government and Nebraska utilities. Strong communication skills with these groups will develop and foster these relationships
- Strive for national and state conference/association participation. Interface with other utilities in the state to coordinate thermal energy resource initiatives
- Stay current with regulations/legislation that would affect thermal energy generation resources
- Support and maintain a systematic end-to-end methodology, associated processes, and any supporting technology solutions to identify, prioritize, and deliver thermal energy and any assigned BU specific projects/initiatives
- Support BU leadership with development of comprehensive plans, business case proposals, measurements/metrics of success and resourcing requirements
- Analyze project/initiative portfolio for potential conflicts in resourcing, feasibility of schedules, delivery dependencies, and other factors that may impede successful delivery of portfolio outputs
- Monitor and track portfolio progress, modify and recommend appropriate actions to keep BU on plan for all initiatives
- Apply appropriate Project Management techniques and other OPPD specific systems (LEAN, OPPD Change Management system, etc.) to lead and deliver assigned initiatives, and projects typically greater than one year in scope and duration
Required:
- 4-year BS Engineering degree, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
