Engineering Project Manager
Location: Omaha, NE
MUST-HAVES (Please read first)- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5–10 years of experience in power or energy sector engineering, design, or operations
- Hands‑on experience with natural gas–fueled power generation projects
- Combustion turbines (simple or combined cycle) and/or reciprocating engines
- Experience supporting project design, permitting, and/or construction
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading all technical aspects of electric power generation project development—from early concept through design and construction. This role focuses primarily on natural gas–fueled generation projects and plays a key role in evaluating technologies, optimizing plant design, and supporting project execution.
The position also supports interdisciplinary project teams and may contribute technical expertise to projects involving carbon capture, pipeline transportation, and geologic sequestration (CCS).
Key Responsibilities- Plan, define, and manage all engineering activities throughout project development
- Evaluate and compare plant configurations, layouts, and technology options
- Lead technology selection to optimize performance, efficiency, cost, and risk
- Develop project design basis and oversee conceptual engineering
- Monitor equipment supplier technology developments and industry trends
- Prepare performance estimates, including capacity, efficiency, heat balance, and water usage
- Conduct site feasibility assessments, including constructability, geotechnical, hydrology, and permitting reviews
- Develop and review project development and construction schedules
- Contribute to technical risk assessments to support project prioritization
- Identify innovative design solutions to maximize capacity while minimizing cost and schedule impacts
- Oversee preparation of technical specifications and support bid and procurement processes
- Develop capital and operating cost estimates for multiple project configurations
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, and formal project documentation
- Maintain organized and accurate technical project records
- 10+ years of experience in power sector project engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Proven experience supporting projects during the development phase
- Hands‑on experience with Thermoflow software
- Experience with pipeline design and construction
- Familiarity with bulk electric system interconnection processes
- Knowledge of power industry standards, codes, and regulations
- Experience using GIS tools for project planning and analysis
- Programming experience with Python or Visual Basic
