In the role of Mechanical Engineer at HDR, you will design and manage mechanical systems for commercial and institutional buildings.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the mechanical design team through schematic design development and contract document phase.
- Establish and participate in code compliance reviews with governing agencies.
- Coordinate workload to complete documents on schedule.
- Conduct site work sessions in partnership with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Review mechanical documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
- Write and edit mechanical specifications, select equipment, systems, and devices.
- Assist disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, incorporating agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
- Provide construction contract administration as needed.
- Conduct QA/QC on work by other Mechanical Project Engineers, Coordinators, or CAD Technicians.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings.
- Experience in healthcare, science and technology, or civic facilities.
- Interest in sustainable design/LEED (desired but not required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Prior mechanical system design experience for commercial or institutional buildings.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
- Computer proficiency using MS Office, TRANE TRACE or similar software, and manufacturer selection tools.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or consulting firm.
- Commitment to participating in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
