The Senior Specialist, Engineering at Bio Technology and Solutions (BTS) – Tech Hub focuses on vaccine and biologicals process development for manufacturing within a multidisciplinary environment. The role provides all‑round technological support for new (R&D) products across production lines.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead and work independently on the development and scale‑up of processes or technologies for microbial, virus, and cell cultivations, biomolecule concentration, purification, and final formulation of veterinary vaccines and therapeutics.
- Lead and work independently on the transfer of these processes or technologies to production lines.
- Lead and work independently on the development of processes or technologies and their transfer to production lines within set timelines, ensuring safety, quality, cost‑efficiency, practical applicability, and consistency.
- Lead and work independently on technical investigations, validation, and/or process improvement projects.
- Examine issues from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, automation, equipment, process, people) to understand and resolve the root cause.
- Collaborate with team members from other departments (QC, Pharmaceutical Technical Support, R&D, Production, Analytical Technical Services) to provide direction to scientifically based decisions within projects aimed at product improvement, problem solving, or new product development.
- Implement development, introduction, and/or testing of new technologies; collaborate and interface with R&D and Manufacturing to bring new products to market.
- Lead large cross‑functional teams and demonstrate working knowledge of current USDA regulatory guidelines and advanced technical knowledge.
- Develop project charters and plans, align with sponsors and stakeholders, and manage project lifecycle activities.
- Coordinate and track team activities, lead core team meetings, communicate project risks and status, and increase issue escalation as needed.
- Support inspection readiness with Commercialization, Quality, and Regulatory; ensure consistent application of standardized work and engineering tools.
- Conduct and design experimental protocols using Technical Operations lab facilities or production equipment at full scale.
- Create and update technical and manufacturing documents for investigations, process design, engineering studies, process demonstrations, change control, and validation.
- Display company leadership behaviors and demonstrate high emotional intelligence.
- Collaborate effectively with peers on and above site as required.
- Contribute to international (global) projects.
- Interact closely with fellow scientists in the department or external partners when required.
- Actively contribute to improvement or acceleration of department activities, including Environment Health and Safety.
- Train and guide employees and/or trainees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry, or Microbiology + 5 years experience in vaccine/biopharmaceutical R&D, process development, or biological manufacturing (or Master’s degree + 3 years, or PhD).
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Excellent project management, documentation, and writing.
- Excellent teamwork.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a hands‑on approach, inclusive of diverse perspectives (e.g., safety, compliance).
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary and international teams.
- Experience in bioprocess scale‑up and vaccine manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of USDA regulations.
- Knowledge of GMP requirements for manufacture and testing of biological products.
- Understanding of statistics and application to process monitoring and control.
- Molecular biology, replicon particles, cell cultivation.
