Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead
HDR is seeking a national Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead within our Power Delivery Practice to be part of our national Alternative Delivery (AD) Leadership Team. The role focuses on technical bid development, estimating, and transitioning projects from pursuit to execution, working with global power delivery staff and construction partners.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as the Pursuit Champion / Manager on Transmission EPC projects, transitioning management duties to the Project Manager after award.
- Collaborate with construction partners and HDR technical leads to facilitate discussion on technical risk analysis, mitigation, preliminary routing and design, and bill‑of‑material take‑off support; offer value engineering and constructability solutions.
- Lead HDR scope, schedule, and budget development with a focus on activities and risks unique to AD projects, coordinating with land survey, geotechnical, distribution, substation, environmental, real estate, and GIS staff.
- Estimate technical investments prior to the Go/No‑Go discussion and share risk evaluations with commercial, business development, and operations leaders.
- Interface with construction contractors and HDR subconsultants during pursuit and project, driving risk identification and mitigation conversations.
- Assist in Go/No‑Go discussions, project risk assessments, SOQs, proposals, interviews, and negotiations as required.
- Work with power delivery and operations leadership to build out front‑end engineering and design (FEED) teams as the AD program grows.
- Serve in project technical leadership roles, including engineering manager, discipline lead, or technical advisor, conducting FEED development and standing‑up project teams while managing risk analysis for handoff decisions.
- Develop templates, standards, specifications, drawings, processes, and procedures to support Transmission Line EPC pursuits and projects, maintaining a database of design templates and best‑practice guidance.
- Mentor and lead teams comprising Project Managers, Engineering Managers, and discipline specialists such as transmission site/civil, structural/foundation, distribution, environmental, real estate, and GIS personnel.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Report to the Alternative Delivery Director.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in transmission design.
- Minimum 5 years building and leading engineering teams on EPC projects.
- Proficient in PLS‑CADD, PLS‑Pole, PLS‑Tower, MFAD, and LPILE.
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing engineering scope, schedule and budget estimates on EPC projects.
- Experience developing EPC design and construction packages.
- Specific experience performing all aspects of transmission line design, procurement and construction for projects up to 500 kV.
- Understanding of routing, spotting, material selection, wire sagging, and foundation plans; experience offering value engineering aligned with industry best practices.
- Experience optimizing pole and foundation design.
- Experience working with environmental, real estate and GIS teams.
- Strong leadership skills and engineering management experience with multiple remote teams.
- Self‑starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Web Ex, Teams, etc.).
- Position requires up to 20 % travel.
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
- 10 years experience in related field.
- Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience.
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams.
- Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $160,090 – $228,700.
