SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Safety Engineer that will be responsible for implementing Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site. Positions at Levels 1 and 2 are available. Compensation depends on experience and location.

• Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site‑specific safety activities, and conduct safety orientation/training.
• Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, and manage OSHA reporting.
• Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, and participate in project planning/hazard analysis.
• Provide safety‑related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards and regulations, serve as safety resource, and attend/chair safety meetings.
• Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours, ensure maintenance of safety equipment, and manage PPE and safety budget.
• Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
• Or high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and minimum five years of construction experience.
• Previous related internship experience a plus.
• Current driver’s license.
• Detail‑oriented, able to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software programs.
• Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate company policies.
• Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
• Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
• Effective communication, active listening, openness to diverse input and feedback, and ability to travel up to 100%.

• Safety Engineer I – base pay range $78,800–$98,500.
• Safety Engineer II – base pay range $81,800–$110,400.

Actual range is higher for Denver, CO;
Chicago, IL (5%);
Seattle, WA;
Portland, OR (10%);
Washington, D.C. (12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors, including knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
