Position: Fire & Life Safety Specialist (Fire Sprinkler)

Responsibilities

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive.

  • Create fire suppression system designs in a BIM model from design information and data provided by the Engineer/Architect.
  • Generate contract documents from the model and perform other BIM tasks identified in the BIM Planning documents.
  • Use design analysis software and integrate analysis models/data with Revit.
  • Apply NFPA and industry standards related to fire protection systems.
  • Work with both engineers and architects throughout the project lifecycle with minimal oversight.
  • Communicate effectively with consultants, project teams, and clients—verbal and written.
  • Apply FLS design criteria, edit specifications, review shop drawings, and manage RFI’s and CPR’s.
  • Assist with continual improvement of drafting and production standards.
  • Travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years’ experience in fire alarm design or related facility design.
  • NICET certification or Bachelor of Sciences degree.
  • Experience with Autodesk products such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PDF creation software (Bluebeam, Adobe).

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a closely related field or a high school diploma with relevant education and experience.
  • Entry‑level NFPA, ICC certifications or other credentials related to Fire & Life Safety.
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Specialty software experience necessary for designs in your area of expertise.
