Summary

About the Position: As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist located in the Omaha District Safety and Occupational Health Office. This position is responsible for providing critical guidance on all safety related programs that typically include: civil works operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power plants/flood control projects/levee and channel improvement; civil/military programs design and construction;environmental hazardous and toxic waste remediation.

Duties

Help
  • As a Senior Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, you will:
  • Assist in the management of the District's Safety and Occupational Health Program which encompasses a large and diverse geographical area.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate portions of an overall safety and occupational health program which prescribes a broad range of safety principles, and appropriate precautionary measures to be followed, in carrying out the Districts assigned missions.
  • Develop safety program, plans, and procedures applicable to a broad variety of activities; including,construction industry safety, accident investigating and reporting, electrical/hazardous energy, fire protection and prevention, and etc..
  • Develop technical parameters and justifications for changes to designs and plans for the improvement of the construction of facilities the power producing or flood control dams to enhance safe working conditions and processes.
  • Participate in phases of design and construction as required, helping to assure that safety requirements are met.
  • Proposes interim corrective action, uses risk management criteria to access hazards, and recommends final corrective action in a timely manner.
  • Determine compliance with published regulations, requirements, standards and issues notification for non-compliance/violations.

  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
