Fire & Life Safety BIM Specialist – (191321) – at HDR, Global Headquarters, Omaha, Nebraska
Job Duties- Work closely with fire protection engineers, specialists, designers, project managers, and multi‑discipline design teams to lead the BIM design and production of Fire & Life Safety construction documents derived from BIM models.
- Collaborate with the FLS Digital Design Lead to develop BIM content, standardize production practices, ensure quality production, coordinate and monitor deliverables, and continuously improve processes to meet client needs.
- Plan, guide, and coordinate BIM model production, oversee model development, and coordinate with element authors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Generate discipline models and produce BIM elements according to the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope.
- Create and maintain discipline models, systems, content, and overall digital delivery output, including detailed drawings, layouts, and diagrams within project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Maintain model health, coordinate with other discipline models through design reviews and 3‑D coordination processes, and monitor and improve company standards.
- Assist in executing all Digital Delivery requirements and perform other duties as needed.
- Knowledge of production of design developments and construction documents, and thorough knowledge of engineering planning, drafting, and detailing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PDF creation software (Bluebeam and Adobe).
- Experience with Navisworks, Micro Station, and Autodesk products.
- Exposure to fire and life safety system design.
- Associate degree in a technology program or equivalent education and experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Ability to work well with engineers, technicians, and support staff.
- Willingness to travel (typically less than 5 %).
- Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Active participation in an employee‑owned culture.
- Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years of related industry experience.
- Technical qualification with 3D design software and document‑management infrastructure.
- Competency in Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
- Experience with 3D coordination tools.
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational traits.
- Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
