Responsibilities
Under general supervision of RCE and ARCE, performs project management and supervisory duties related to the management of roadway construction projects.
Ensures that all work is performed in compliance with plans and specifications, monitors projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and standards, notifies Contractor and RCE of deficiencies, verifies resolution.
Ensures construction inspection, sampling, and testing requirements are met or exceeded by qualified inspectors, assists RCE in resolving construction conflicts to keep projects on time and on budget, ensures work meets environmental regulations and permits.
Ensures work zone safety and traffic control requirements are met and that construction projects are safe for Contractors, SCDOT personnel, and traveling public.
Performs inspection duties as a certified CEPSCI and SCDOT inspector, supervises and develops consultant inspectors, ensures consultant inspectors are well trained and receive technical assistance and guidance as needed, prepares, maintains, and/or verifies accuracy of all forms, checklists, and spreadsheets.
Assists in preparation of closeout documents, including Final/As-Built Construction plans, serves as Department representative when dealing with contractors, the general public, property owners, utility company representatives, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsA bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management. Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
