Senior Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead mechanical product development for food processing equipment. The role focuses on creating robust, manufacturable designs using Solid Works, driving projects from concept through prototyping and production, and collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality, and operations to meet safety, performance, and cost targets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading mechanical design and product development for food processing machinery, from concept through production release.
• Creating detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings in Solid Works, including assemblies, BOMs, and revision documentation.
• Applying Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to optimize cost, manufacturability, and serviceability.
• Working closely with shop floor teams, machine shops, and fabricators to support machining, welding, and metal fabrication activities and resolve production issues.
• Developing and overseeing prototyping, testing, and validation plans; iterating designs based on test results and field feedback.
• Specifying materials, fasteners, finishes, and welding processes appropriate for industrial and sanitary food-processing environments.
• Ensuring designs comply with applicable food safety, sanitary design, and industry standards; supporting regulatory and QA documentation.
• Coordinating with vendors and suppliers to source components, secure quotes, and evaluate manufacturability of purchased parts.
• Mentoring and reviewing work of junior engineers and designers; providing technical leadership and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Managing project timelines, risk assessments, cost estimates, and change control in cross-functional projects.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; MS preferred.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience, with a minimum of 3 years in food processing equipment or related industrial machinery.
• Expert proficiency in Solid Works for 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawing production.
• Hands-on experience with machining processes, welding techniques, and metal fabrication practices.
• Proven experience designing for industrial and sanitary food-processing environments, including knowledge of applicable standards and hygienic design principles.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and specifications for manufacturing.
• Experience with prototyping, test planning, and resolving production issues on the shop floor.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior staff.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
• Willingness to occasionally travel to supplier sites and manufacturing facilities.
• Preferred: experience with ERP/PDM systems, familiarity with HACCP/FDA guidelines, and certifications in welding inspection or Solid Works.
