Position Overview
As a Transmission Planning Engineer III, you will serve as a technical leader within OPPD's Transmission Planning team, performing advanced engineering evaluations and helping shape the district's future transmission strategy. You will independently execute medium and high‑complexity studies, mentor junior team members, refine standards, and support cross‑discipline coordination. Your work will directly influence major planning decisions, project scopes, and interconnection commitments.
TheImpact You'll Have
- Lead advanced transmission system studies using industry‑standard tools and modeling best practices
- Develop and recommend solution alternatives that feed into OPPD's long‑term expansion plans
- Manage project components, ensuring scope, schedule, and technical quality are met
- Lead significant portions of interconnection and system impact evaluations
- Represent OPPD in select regional study groups, helping ensure alignment with NERC, FERC, and SPP expectations
- Improve department procedures, modeling standards, and quality control processes
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Engineers I and II
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field; advanced degree a plus
- Strong expertise in power systems analysis, transmission planning tools, and utility data management
- Ability to independently conduct complex powerflow, short circuit, and stability studies
- Experience developing conceptual scopes, project justifications, and cost estimates
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, legal, regulatory, and construction teams
- Clear and confident communication of technical findings to leadership and stakeholders
- Preferred experiences: 5 years of transmission planning experience, prior utility or RTO/ISO coordination, scripting/automation experience, or leadership roles in technical projects
Office:
Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Work will be performed in high traffic environments.
Physical DemandsMinimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Salary/Wage InfoGrade: S5
Minimum: $98,877
Midpoint: $123,596
