Position Overview
As a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer at OPPD, you will provide expert-level technical leadership that guides the district's long-term transmission strategy, shapes major capital investments, and ensures system reliability. You will oversee complex planning studies, develop advanced methodologies, support key interconnection evaluations, and mentor engineers across the department. This role is integral to OPPD's mission to provide affordable, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy to the communities it serves.
The Impact You'll Have
+ Lead high
¿ complexity transmission planning studies that drive system performance and investment decisions
+ Establish technical direction, standards, and methodologies to improve OPPD's planning practices
+ Develop long-term transmission expansion strategies and recommend capital improvements
+ Oversee major interconnection and system impact evaluations, ensuring accuracy and alignment with requirements
+ Represent OPPD in regional planning groups and strengthen coordination with neighboring utilities
+ Identify technical risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance
+ Mentor engineering staff, enhance departmental capability, and support cross
¿ functional initiatives
What You'll Bring
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; advanced degree or professional license preferred
+ Expert-level knowledge of transmission planning, modeling, stability analysis, and regulatory frameworks
+ Proven ability to lead complex engineering work streams and influence organizational decision-making
+ Strong background in developing long-term plans, conceptual project scopes, and technical justifications
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders, technical experts, regulators, and external partners
+ Commitment to developing others through coaching and knowledge sharing
+
Preferred Experience s: 8+ years in transmission planning, leadership in regional planning processes (SPP or equivalent), advanced software or automation expertise, PE license, or project leadership experience

Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Work Environment:
Work will be performed in high traffic environments.
Physical Demands:
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Salary/Wage Info
Grade: S6
Minimum: $109,942
Midpoint: $137,428
