Position Overview
As a Transmission Planning Engineer I at Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), you will help support the reliability, resilience, and long-term performance of OPPD's transmission system. Working within the Transmission Planning team, you will apply foundational engineering principles to build and validate system models, support routine transmission studies, and contribute to planning activities that ensure safe and reliable power delivery to OPPD's customers.
This role provides a structured development path with mentorship, training, and hands-on experience in industry-standard planning tools and processes.
The Impact You'll Have
+ Perform foundational transmission studies that contribute to system reliability
+ Provide accurate modeling, data validation, and documentation that support higher-level analyses
+ Assist with long-term transmission planning activities by compiling data and producing supporting exhibits
+ Support interconnection studies by preparing base cases, running contingency screens, and organizing outputs
+ Contribute to OPPD
¿ s compliance with NERC, FERC, and SPP planning requirements
+ Strengthen team workflows by following checklists, communicating discrepancies, and participating in quality control
+ Grow your technical capability and learn established planning processes through structured mentorship
What You'll Bring
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering field
+ Foundational understanding of power systems and transmission concepts
+ Ability to manage assigned tasks with accuracy and follow established procedures
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Effective communication and collaboration with peers and senior engineers
+ Interest in learning modeling tools, planning standards, and regulatory requirements
+
Preferred Experience s:
Exposure to powerflow tools (PSSE, Power World), utility coursework, or internship experience

Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Work Environment:
Work will be performed in high traffic environments.
Physical Demands:
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Salary/Wage Info
Grade: S3
Minimum: $81,905
Midpoint: $102,381
