Manager, Energy Systems Operations Position Summary
The Manager, Energy Systems Operations provides overall management of Energy Management and Controls System (EMCS), Lighting Controls, and Utility Metering systems. Responsibilities include project development and management, designing projects, writing specifications, preparing construction documents, managing external contractors, supervising EMCS technicians, and identifying, documenting, and justifying energy conservation and efficiency opportunities across campus.
Job Duties Energy Management & Documentation- Maintain and analyze data bases to provide management reports on energy usage, determine effectiveness of systems, draw conclusions to recommend conservation measures, and provide other required reports.
- Allocate 10% of time to these duties.
- Utilize cutting‑edge technologies and trends to identify, document, detail, and justify energy conservation, efficiency, and optimization opportunities campus‑wide.
- Manage consultants and contractors in planning, development, and implementation of energy conservation projects.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director to ensure energy‑efficiency technologies and concepts are implemented on campus.
- Maintain and analyze data bases to provide management reports on energy usage, determine effectiveness of systems, and recommend conservation measures.
- Allocate 30% of time to these duties.
- Develop and manage project schedules using time‑management tools such as Gantt charts.
- Coordinate with consultants and contractors to repair existing systems and design, install, and implement new systems.
- Continuously assess system efficiency and identify the need for new strategies or systems.
- Act as a resource to the UNO community.
- Allocate 35% of time to these duties.
- Supervise, prioritize, instruct, coordinate, plan, and inspect EMCS technicians to ensure efficient, effective, and timely support services.
- Review applications, conduct interviews, and make hiring recommendations; participate in HR processes including coaching, corrective actions, and termination.
- Develop training and mentoring programs to provide a clear path for advancement and succession management.
- Allocate 15% of time to these duties.
- Act within a competitive marketplace context where client perceptions and satisfaction are key.
- Demonstrate understanding of client needs and expectations for work delivery.
- Provide timely and proactive communications with clients.
- Ensure results and installations meet client expectations and commitments.
- Allocate 10% of time to these duties.
Associate’s degree in HVAC Systems Technology, Electronics, Controls, or a related building HVAC systems field.
Required ExperienceMinimum of five years’ experience in the design and installation of HVAC‑EMS systems, including project and personnel management. Experience in energy management.
Required License/CertificationValid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred EducationBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, or a technical related field.
Preferred ExperienceExperience with Niagara/Tridium, BACnet & Siemens systems; lighting controls and utility metering systems; integration of these systems;
EnergyCAP software.
