Machine Design Engineer

Location:

Valley Facility (onsite)

Overview

The Machine Design Engineer is responsible for end‑to‑end design and implementation of proprietary manufacturing equipment projects to meet global needs, including conceptual development, 3D modeling, functional verification, fabrication drawings, material specifications and procurement, manufacturing oversight, coordination and quality control, testing, and preparation of O&M documentation and training, where applicable.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in conceptualization, design, and development of proprietary manufacturing equipment to meet global production needs.
  • Create detailed 3D models, perform functional simulations, and verify design feasibility.
  • Perform risk assessments for design and manufacturing processes and implement safety measures.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure product specifications.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing issues, working with cross‑functional teams.
  • Ensure all process, equipment, project documentation is captured and stored in the appropriate digital system.
  • Analyze operating costs, labor, material, and variable costs to identify cost‑reduction opportunities.
  • Monitor equipment performance post‑implementation, identify areas for improvement, and implement enhancements.
  • Meet or exceed established project performance goals.
  • Up to 10% travel, including overnight stays (primarily domestic with some international).
Qualifications
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3‑6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering/machine design.
  • Construction / Machinery Project Management experience leading teams and managing vendors.
  • Proven experience leading and driving change on multiple projects.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Suite (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault).
  • Familiarity with robotics (Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kuka, Nachi).
  • Knowledge of steel metallurgy, welding processes.
  • Ability to work independently or in groups.
  • Proficient with machine controls, PLC hardware and software, GD&T.
  • Strong leadership, motivation, and vision communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
  • EIT or Professional Engineer License.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MEM, or MS Technical).
  • Finite element analysis experience.
  • Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) or similar certification.
  • Knowledge of Lean tools and principles.
