Environmental Specialist

As a Specialist in Environmental Affairs, you will combine fieldwork, environmental data, regulatory reporting, and collaboration to support OPPD's air, water, and waste compliance programs.

This is an opportunity for someone with the right education, curiosity, and analytical ability to begin or grow an environmental career. Previous environmental work experience is not required. OPPD is prepared to train and develop someone who can learn complex requirements, work carefully with technical information, and build productive relationships with operational teams.

This is one of two separate postings supporting a single vacancy. Candidates should apply to the level that best reflects their qualifications. Only one position will be filled.

The Impact You Will Have

+ Collect, process, and verify environmental samples involving air, water, groundwater, stormwater, oil, and waste.

+ Review laboratory results and environmental data to identify trends, abnormalities, and potential compliance concerns.

+ Maintain accurate environmental tracking systems and support required reporting involving emissions, water usage, discharge monitoring, greenhouse gases, CCR, and MATS.

+ Support continuous emissions monitoring and performance-testing activities, including CEMS, RATA, MATS, and Appendix E testing.

+ Conduct environmental inspections involving stormwater, SPCC, CCR landfills, and other environmental infrastructure.

+ Document findings, initiate corrective actions, and partner with plant personnel to resolve environmental issues.

+ Assist with reviewing regulations, permits, procedures, and compliance requirements and incorporating changes into environmental work practices.

+ Build relationships across OPPD and help operating teams understand and fulfill their environmental responsibilities.

What You Will Bring

Required qualifications:

+ A bachelor's degree in an environmental, scientific, engineering, or closely related discipline.

+ Demonstrated ability to successfully perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

+ Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing environmental information, laboratory results, and compliance records.

+ The ability to organize work, maintain accurate documentation, and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.

+ Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical professionals, plant personnel, and other stakeholders.

+ The ability and willingness to work in office, field, outdoor, and industrial generation environments.

Experience that will help you stand out:

+ Environmental internships, cooperative education, academic projects, or other exposure to air, water, waste, chemistry, environmental monitoring, or regulatory compliance.

+ Experience collecting samples, conducting inspections, reviewing technical data, or preparing environmental reports.

+ Familiarity with environmental regulations, permits, or programs such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, CCR, SPCC, or stormwater requirements.

+ Experience in a utility, generation, manufacturing, consulting, government, or other regulated environment.

+ Exposure to continuous emissions monitoring systems, performance testing, laboratory data, or environmental information-management systems.
