HGM Associates is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation Practice in Omaha, Nebraska, supporting roadway design and transportation improvement projects for city, county, and Department of Transportation clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for a roadway engineer who wants to continue building technical design experience while working in a collaborative, flexible, and low-bureaucracy environment. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
In this position, you will support transportation project teams by preparing roadway design plans, contract documents, cost estimates, quantity calculations, and CADD deliverables that meet HGM, client, and applicable project standards. You may also assist with on-site inspection services for transportation improvement projects.

- Develop roadway design plans and contract documents for transportation improvement projects
- Perform roadway design tasks including culvert and storm sewer designs, horizontal and vertical alignments, typical section development, geometrics and grades, and roadway cross sections and/or corridor models
- Provide on-site inspection services for transportation improvement projects as needed
- Ensure completeness of design-related forms and reports
- Develop and review cost estimates and calculate construction quantities
- Oversee layout and/or review plans
- Demonstrate advanced use of CADD and ensure compliance with project CADD standards
- City, county, and Department of Transportation roadway projects
- Urban and rural roadway design and transportation improvement projects
- Roadway infrastructure projects involving drainage, alignments, geometrics, grading, cross sections, and corridor modeling
- Construction-phase support and on-site inspection services, as needed
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering
- Professional Engineer registration or Engineer in Training certification
- Strong written communication and documentation skills
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Professional Engineer registration in Nebraska or Iowa
- 4+ years of experience in the engineering industry on city, county, or DOT projects
- Micro Station and Open Roads experience
