Position: Commissioning Engineer (Data Center)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applicable discipline and/or field experience relative to this specific discipline
  • 7 + years of Commissioning Experience (MEP, Electrical, IST, or combination) focused on mission-critical, data center, or critical infrastructure facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading MEP commissioning programs including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems based on industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of building information modeling (BIM) and its use in coordination of the Mechanical and Electrical systems
  • Familiar with Bluebeam Studio/Revu
  • Thorough understanding of applicable standards and regulations including NFPA, ASHRAE, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards
  • Proven experience developing and executing test plans (scripts) across Level 1–5 testing, including FAT, SAT, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative leadership skills necessary to communicate clearly, and effectively manage commissioning activities with all levels of personnel from various disciplines across the organization.
Position Summary:

Insight Global is looking for an initiative‑taking, self‑driven individual for the role of Commissioning Engineer, Mission Critical. This individual will be responsible for delivery and execution of the installation, commissioning, and documentation of MEP systems throughout the project lifecycle for data center facilities. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise and field execution support for equipment and utility systems from design through turnover.

This position involves guiding internal and external resources, coordinating with multi-disciplinary project teams, and ensuring compliance with client and global regulatory requirements. The Mission Critical Commissioning Engineer will develop and implement commissioning strategies, leading verification activities, and manage deliverables in alignment with project timelines and quality standards. This role requires excellent organization, communication, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, QA, and construction teams in a dynamic project environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Define the commissioning scope, objectives, and detailed test plans (scripts) for Level 1-5 testing (Factory Acceptance Test to Integrated Systems Testing).
  • Coordinate between developers, general contractors (GCs), vendors, and operations teams to align commissioning activities with the construction schedule.
  • Identify design or installation issues early, managing risks to protect the critical path and driving closure on action items.
  • Lead validation of critical infrastructure, including standby generators, UPS, switch gear, air handling units (AHUs), and chiller systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), and safety standards.
  • Function as the primary interface between CQV, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Develop and manage CQV schedules, ensuring alignment with project milestones.
  • Lead by example by instilling a culture of safety and quality on the jobsite.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and project team members on data center best practices.
  • Track, report, and communicate CQV progress and issues to project and regional leadership.
  • Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives within the CQV organization.
  • Ensure safety standards are being followed in accordance with guidelines, regulations, and Client procedures.
  • This position may require 100% travel and client site location for an extended period.
