Job Summary
Senior Accountant – North America Coatings Division. This role supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for the North America Coatings Division, preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts to sub ledgers, identifying accounting process improvements, producing monthly reconciliations and reports, and assisting with month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closings.
Responsibilities- Ensure timely and thorough preparation of financial records and reports for use by management and operating personnel.
- Prepare, post and support journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and month‑end closing processes.
- Identify and implement accounting process improvements.
- Produce monthly reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Perform month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closings.
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation, including cycle counts and LIFO compliance.
- Ensure accurate customer invoicing and revenue recognition per US GAAP.
- Maintain receivables sub‑ledger, reconcile items and reserves.
- Record warranty accruals for expected failures.
- Accrue expenses, payables, debt balances.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting detail.
- Ensure SOX controls have owners, are self‑tested, and that journal entries are properly supported.
- Coordinate with North America Coatings Division Controller and other Valmont divisions.
- Analyze data for trends and present findings.
- Provide audit control oversight and support audit readiness.
- Distribute monthly financial status reports to senior management.
- Monitor and address unusual accounting and reporting issues.
- Recommend continuous improvement of products, processes and services.
- Maintain an ethical and competent work environment.
- Assist in resolving intercompany differences between Coatings sites and Corporate.
- Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s with 7+ years, or 10+ years of relevant experience.
- 2+ years of general ledger accounting, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Basic understanding of internal controls.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong analytical, thinking and reasoning skills.
- Detail and goal oriented.
- Strong initiative and decision‑making ability.
- Leadership ability to influence others.
- Sound judgment.
- Experience in a matrix environment.
- Accountability for own conduct.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Accounting or Finance.
- Strong working knowledge of QAD, One Stream, IFS, VCC Max, Visual Shop, Bloomberg and Blackline Software.
